This book is designed to provide information for homeowners, homebuilders, and other construction partners regarding the Mold-Free ProcessTM, a process by which the problems of mold and mildew may be controlled and, in some cases, eliminated by decisions made during the building process. Many of the problems relating to mold and mildew proliferation are a direct result of poor decision-making in the design stages of construction and in the methods and materials used in the construction process itself. By adhering to the recommendations herein described the occurrence of mold and mildew problems can be substantially reduced and thereby provide a more allergy-free environment for the new homeowner.
I wrote this book with the homeowner in mind. It's usefulness, explained in the Introduction, explains how this book is timely, understandable, and practical. It's timely because the increased proliferation of mold issues in indoor environments is alarming and homeowners and homebuilders want solutions now. It's understandable because I take a "down to earth" and "common sense" approach to decisions the customer needs to make prior to the commencement of his construction process. I use terms that are easily understood instead of the technical terminology reserved for the construction industry. And it's practical because, using an easy checklist format, the homeowner is given the ability to begin the construction process with a checklist. He can make decisions to insure the Mold-Free Process is complied with by the contractor. How those early decisions are made could affect the health of him and his family for years to come. I know this will help the homeowner sort through the maze and have a clear picture of the house they really want to build. I know this Mold-Free ProcessTM works!

Is This Your Child?
This easy to understand 635-page book illustrates the way to tell which children or adults have environmental illness by the way a child or adult look, feel, act, and behave. The writing, the pulse, or the ability to breathe also provides important clues. It tells how to pinpoint specifically the reason why certain children or adults are unable to learn in certain rooms, outside the school, or at certain times after specific exposures at school, home or work. It clearly explains ways to verify your suspicions using fast, easy and relatively inexpensive and more expensive methods. If no one is listening, it tells you what to do and where to go for help! This book applies equally well to adults and to homes and workplaces, as well as schools.
Air of Mystery
The mystery began for Dr. Dorr Dearborn in November of 1994, when he was seeing children at his clinic. Three infants were brought in one day with the same life - threatening condition: hemosiderosis, or bleeding lungs. A mold called stachybotrys atra caused by water damage was the cause of the outbreak of sickness in Cleveland, Ohio and later discovered in several other parts of the country. Health officials in Cleveland now check the homes of some newborns to make sure there''s no mold there. Scientists have begun calling the deadly condition "Dr. Dearborn''s fungus."
Mold: The War Within
Home inspectors and remediators can now boost their profits by using published, peer-reviewed scientific and medical citations readily available in the book, MOLD: The War Within to beef up customer reports and educate clients, expanding routine home inspections to include mold inspections. Professionals in the mold abatement industry can further use the book to defuse the myth that “mold cannot hurt you”, which causes many homeowners, landlords, and employers to not remediate structural mold problems once they have been discovered. Richard Lipsey, PhD, a peer reviewer for scientific journals in toxicology, states he would approve the publication without hesitation. The book, MOLD: The War Within, is endorsed by the National Organization of Remediators and Mold Inspectors (NORMI), a training and certifying body for mold inspectors and remediators. Authors Kurt and Lee Ann Billings interviewed prominent experts on mold and chemical related issues to bring to life in lay language such topics as the effects of mold & chemical exposures on human health; methods of mold testing; dangers of antifungal, antibiotic, & steroid pharmaceuticals; legal loopholes of mold cases; and healing through natural means. The Billings began researching mold and chemical exposures after their family became gravely ill from toxic Hurricane Katrina exposures. They expose the prevalence of fungal misdiagnoses and medical mistreatments while chronicling their family's frustrating, but ultimately successful, quest for effective treatment. MOLD: The War Within is an all-inclusive documented reference book on mold-related issues that will benefit every mold professional and victim.
